METABOLIC
Hemoglobin A1c
Also known as HbA1c
What it is
HbA1c reflects average blood sugar over the previous ~3 months by measuring glycated hemoglobin in red blood cells.
Why it matters
HbA1c is the standard metric for diagnosing prediabetes and diabetes and for tracking treatment response. It smooths day-to-day glucose noise and captures trend.
Range GPLX watches for
GPLX generally targets HbA1c below 5.4% in symptomatic patients. Prediabetes ranges 5.7–6.4%; diabetes ≥6.5%. Ranges vary by lab.
This educational range is not a personal diagnostic threshold. Your physician interprets your result in context of your full biomarker panel, medications, symptoms, and history.
What abnormal values can suggest
If low
A low HbA1c value can suggest anemia, recent blood loss, or hemoglobin variants that shorten red cell lifespan.
If high
A high HbA1c value can suggest prediabetes, diabetes, or elevated glucose during the previous three months.
