Fasting Glucose

Also known as FBG

What it is

Fasting glucose measures blood sugar after an overnight fast. It is a first-line screen for prediabetes and diabetes.

Why it matters

Fasting glucose is one of the four core metabolic markers. Even mild elevations, sustained, drive long-term cardiovascular and neurologic risk.

Range GPLX watches for

GPLX generally targets fasting glucose in the 70–90 mg/dL range in symptomatic patients. The lab reference is wider, but the metabolic goal is tighter.

This educational range is not a personal diagnostic threshold. Your physician interprets your result in context of your full biomarker panel, medications, symptoms, and history.

What abnormal values can suggest

If low

A low fasting glucose value can suggest excess insulin, insulin-secreting tumors, adrenal insufficiency, or medication effect.

If high

A high fasting glucose value can suggest prediabetes, diabetes, insulin resistance, or acute stress.
