CARDIOVASCULAR
Oxidized LDL
Also known as oxLDL
What it is
Oxidized LDL measures the fraction of LDL cholesterol particles that have been chemically damaged by oxidation. Oxidized particles are the ones that actually drive atherosclerotic plaque formation.
Why it matters
LDL cholesterol on its own is a blunt tool. Oxidized LDL identifies the aggressive, plaque-forming subfraction and helps stratify cardiovascular risk beyond a standard lipid panel. It is one of several advanced markers GPLX uses when the standard panel does not tell the full story.
Range GPLX watches for
GPLX watches for oxidized LDL values within the lab reference range, ideally in the lower half. Interpretation depends on your full cardiovascular risk profile and lipid panel.
This educational range is not a personal diagnostic threshold. Your physician interprets your result in context of your full biomarker panel, medications, symptoms, and history.
What abnormal values can suggest
If low
A low oxidized LDL value is generally favorable and suggests low current oxidative burden on the lipoproteins.
If high
A high oxidized LDL value suggests active oxidative stress, higher plaque-forming potential, and often accompanies insulin resistance, smoking, or high inflammation. It is a signal to look harder at inflammation and metabolic drivers.
