What it is
Hematocrit is the percentage of blood volume made up of red blood cells.
Why it matters
Hematocrit tracks with hemoglobin as a testosterone safety marker. Elevated hematocrit thickens the blood and can raise stroke and thrombosis risk.

GPLX watches for hematocrit below 52% in patients on testosterone. Above 54% typically warrants dose reduction or therapeutic phlebotomy.

What abnormal values can suggest
If low
A low hematocrit value indicates anemia. See hemoglobin.
If high
